Science to Build
our Resilience
the challenge
Aotearoa New Zealand is significantly exposed to natural hazards and a changing climate.
To build our resilience to these challenges, experts, organisations, and communities need to work together on solutions.
Collaborative research, informed by real-world needs, can provide new knowledge and tools to strengthen our communities, homes and infrastructure.
About Us
We are a multi-institutional, collaborative research programme with a mission to accelerate our resilience to natural hazards.
With funding for seven years from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, we’re mobilising scientists, resources, agencies and communities from around the country to collectively innovate to address this challenge.
Living with Risk
The Living with Risk theme places people at the centre of risk reduction and resilience.
Better Resilience Decisions
The Better Resilience Decisions theme aims to help organisations, businesses and agencies make better decisions about natural hazard risks in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Next Generation Risk Assesment
Supporting decisions made by the institutions, agencies and businesses who manage risk with tailored information, tools and guidance.
Vision Mātauranga
We will further Māori aspirations for disaster resilience science, supporting iwi, hapū and whānau to better understand and manage the impacts of natural hazards.
Data and Enabling Technologies
Disaster risk reduction will benefit from greater uptake of new data applications and emerging technologies.
